Rod Lock© SRII Composite - The BOP that Clamps

What is a Rod Lock© Composite?

The Rod Lock© composite is a combination of a flow tee and a BOP that locks onto the polished rod to prevent it from moving. In a typical PC pump well it is flanged to the tubing head and to the bottom flange of the wellhead drive.

How do you use a Rod Lock© Composite?

The Rod Lock© clamps the polished rod in place and prevents movement so a drive can be removed without needing a winch line to hold the polished rod. Traditionally, the polish rod is suspended by the drawworks, the drive is unbolted and lifted by the sandline. Then a hinged clamp is installed on the polished rod under the drive head so the drawworks can be released. Then the sandline is raised to lift the drive head off the polished rod. The traditional method is slower and due to the need to work under the suspended drive head, it is not as safe as the Rod Lock© method.

Why use a Rod Lock© Composite?

  • Safer. No need to work under a suspended drive head. Fewer lost time accidents.
  • Less production loss while servicing due to reduced time compared to traditional methods.
  • Greater service flexibility. Use a picker instead of a rig.

Cost Savings

  • saves $170.00 Initial drive head installation reduces rig time
  • saves $360.00 Well workovers results in a 45 minute time savings.Rig rates at $480.00/hr
  • saves $310.00 Stuffing box repair using a one ton picker truck versus a flush by rig
  • saves $300.00 Estimated los production savings of at least 1M3 per year

$1140.00 Total savings for the first years based on 1 well work over and 1 SB repair

Workover savings can be applied to coil tubing de-sand jobs The added benefit of Safety cannot be calculated as one lost time accident may cost several thousand dollars
